All lectures will be held in at 6 pm on the University of Richmond campus in Jepson Hall Room 118 (unless marked*), co-sponsored by the University of Richmond Department of Classical Studies

Thursday, October 8 – “Celebrating our ‘Hair-itage:’ Powdered Wigs and Hair Care during the Mid 1700s” by Laura Galke, senior archaeologist at WSP – Lecture for International Archaeology Day and Virginia Archaeology Month

*Thursday, November 12, JEPSON 109* – “The Changing Power of the Past at the Late Bronze Age Cemetery of Aidonia, Greece” by Lynne Kvapil (Professor of Classics, Butler University)

Thursday, February 11 – “The Gilded Age in Washington DC: The Classical Capital as City Beautiful,” by Elise Friedland (George Washington University)

Thursday, March 18 – “From the Cloud to the Ground: Recent Fieldwork at the Villa di Caddeddi, Sicily” by Stephan Hassam (Randolph-Macon College)

*Sunday, April 11, 3:00 pm, JEPSON 118* – “From Archaeologist to Nobel Prize-winning Chemist: Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin and the Gerasa Mosaics” by Lisa Brody (Jack and Mary Ann Frable Curator of Ancient Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts) – 16th Stuart L. Wheeler Gallery of the Ancient World Lecture, followed by open house reception at the Ancient World Gallery, Humanities Building 419

Join us next Thursday, October 16 at 6:00 pm to celebrate Virginia Archaeology Month and International Archaeology Day with a lecture by Matthew Reeves, Director of Archaeology and Landscape Restoration, Montpelier: “Using Archaeology to Reveal the Intellectual Contributions of the Enslaved: Archaeology at Montpelier.” The lecture will be free and open to the public, in Jepson Hall 118 at the University of Richmond (building #221 on the campus map), co-sponsored by UR’s Department of Classical Studies.
